This production is an interactive simulation for a management training company. The entire shoot is done on a green screen stage; actors are later composited into virtual sets. More and more productions, especially for the Net, seem to be utilizing virtual sets. Lighting can be challenging because there must be a balance of natural lighting with a flat set to bring depth and realism to the simulation.

The process starts with a wire-frame layout and a graphic artist's rendering. Lighting cues are added to give the scene more depth.

Then the live action is shot on a green screen composite stage. Every scene for the simulation can be pre-lit on day one, then each scenario/scene can be cued from a dimmer board as needed. Each key, rim and any atmospheric light can all be set to go on cue.
Digital video of the action is captured directly to hard drive where it is then composited using "Ultimatte" for the final rendering. "Ultimatte" allows shadow and light highlights to be rendered. Utilizing theses cues in each scene makes the final composite more realistic.
